Training Philosophy

At Gunmetal Labs, we adhere to a structured approach to dog training, integrating marker training techniques from the outset. Marker training, a form of classical conditioning, entails the verbal acknowledgment ("yes") of desirable behavior followed by a reward, typically food. This method not only serves as a powerful motivator for our canine companions but also fosters effective communication and cultivates a robust human-canine relationship.

Our training philosophy prioritizes instilling fundamental dog manners, safety protocols, and self-discipline. By redirecting the focus and attention of our dogs towards their human counterparts, we aim to mitigate common behavioral challenges such as jumping on people, furniture chewing, and reckless behavior near roads. From the moment they enter our program until they reach eight weeks of age, puppies at Gunmetal Labs undergo a comprehensive "board and train" curriculum, ensuring that they are equipped with essential skills and behaviors to thrive in their new homes.

Our mission extends beyond simply providing puppies; we strive to empower families with the tools and knowledge necessary to effectively communicate with their canine companions. Recognizing the inherent challenges of the early stages of puppy ownership, we are committed to offering ongoing support and guidance to ensure a smooth transition and a fulfilling experience for both dogs and their owners.

By upholding these principles of positive reinforcement training and responsible dog ownership, we endeavor to enrich the lives of our clients and their beloved pets while fostering enduring bonds built on trust and mutual respect.
